As part of the mission of the “Discover Belgrade” organization’s volunteers to plant a total of 2,000 laurel cherry seedlings in Belgrade kindergartens and schools during 2025, the third action was carried out – in the “Skadarlija” Elementary School. The goal is simple and clear: more greenery in schoolyards, a more beautiful and healthier space for children, and a concrete step towards raising ecological awareness through joint work and a good example.

Laurel cherry is more than just a choice of a “beautiful plant” for us. We plant it because we want the yards to get permanent greenery that enriches the space, brings color and smell, but also makes a clear difference: less concrete in the experience, more nature in the everyday life of children. It is grateful, resistant and ideal to become part of the school environment — but the most important thing is what it carries as a message: that greenery is not a decoration, but a responsibility. That is why it was especially important to see the students seriously approaching each seedling, as if they knew that they were not doing something “for today”, but for their school days that are yet to come.

With good organization and a clear division of roles, “Discover Belgrade” volunteers led the action from start to finish, and the students actively participated in planting and watering. Discover Serbia provided seedlings, tools and all the necessary material, while our expert team was present to guide the process and help ensure that the planting was carried out correctly, so that the seedlings would have the best conditions to take root and grow. We especially appreciated the support of the management and teachers of “Skadarlija” Elementary School, who contributed to ensuring that everything went smoothly and in an excellent atmosphere. Thank you to the school for the cooperation – we continue on, step by step, closer to achieving the goal of 2,000 laurel cherries.
