Birdhouses and Wildlife Observation Post: GoGreen Team Built at Perućac

30. September 2026. Tara – Perućac

When a team decides to spend a weekend in nature, and the weather doesn’t cooperate with their plans, a story worth telling unfolds. This is exactly what happened at Perućac on Tara, where volunteers from the GoGreen team, together with the Discover Serbia team, built birdhouses and a wildlife observation post as part of the “Roll Up Our Sleeves” initiative.

Day one: from lunch to the first birdhouses

The action started with a shared lunch and a short break after the trip—just enough for everyone to recharge and get to know each other. Then we headed to our base, where we officially welcomed the volunteers and introduced the task of the day: building birdhouses. Everything we needed was ready, from tools to our volunteers who jumped in with advice and help with every hammer. The group split into several teams, and the work began!

The only obstacle was the rain that wouldn’t let up. Our experience tells us that few teams don’t take shelter when it pours like this, but the GoGreen crew simply didn’t want to wait for better weather. They had one goal, and they stuck with it to the end.

An evening with music

After the work was done, it was time for some well-earned rest at the hotel and to recharge for the next day. And since a good day’s work deserves a good evening, the team got together for a party with a DJ and drinks, with the kind of chatting and laughter you never quite have time for in the office.

Day two: the observation post and birdhouses in place

The next day, part of the team headed into the forest for a bigger challenge: building a wildlife observation post, intended primarily for bears. Sightings in this area are becoming more frequent, which is wonderful news! These volunteers helped the craftsmen with the observation post, branded and varnished the birdhouses from the previous day, and then installed them in the right spots.

The entrances of the birdhouses face north, for a very practical reason. From that side, rain doesn’t hit the opening directly, and chicks are protected from overheating when the midday sun beats down. That way, every resident gets a dry, pleasantly cool home.

According to the plan, the work should have been finished much earlier. Still, the volunteers stayed until the very last detail was in place.

Thank you, GoGreen!

We’d like to thank the entire GoGreen team for the energy, persistence, and great spirit they brought to Perućac. What they left in the forest will serve birds, observers, and everyone who comes to Tara for a long time after this weekend.
