Discover Serbia organization, in partnership with the Public Enterprise Vojvodina Forests and with the support of GoGreen team volunteers, conducted an ambitious ecological action called “Eco Family Day“, in the Koviljski-Petrovaradin Rit Special Nature Reserve.

This reserve, which encompasses exceptionally valuable marsh-wetland and forest ecosystems across over 5,895 hectares, represents a vital habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Due to its exceptional natural value, Koviljski-Petrovaradin Rit is protected under international conventions and today represents an important area for biodiversity conservation.

More than 80 GoGreen team volunteers joined the action with the goal of restoring fish populations, maintaining visitor infrastructure, and reducing plastic impact on the local ecosystem.

One of the key activities during the action was the creation and installation of nine willow branch nests for pike, which will create a safe environment for the reproduction of this important fish species. Additionally, volunteers worked together with experts to install and renovate children’s furniture within the reserve at Šlajz, using natural materials to preserve the natural beauty of the space.

Additional contribution to the action was made by volunteers who, using special boats, cleaned the shoreline and hard-to-reach parts of the islands in Koviljski Rit from waste and plastic.

In addition to practical activities, the action included educational workshops for children. Licensed educators from Discover Serbia and the Children’s Innovation Center led workshops on insects, pollination, recycling, and robotics, providing children with the opportunity to learn about nature and ecology through play and fun.

This action, although designed with the goal of improving habitats and developing tourism activities, simultaneously had a deeper, noble purpose – to bring families together in a joint endeavor of nature conservation and education about environmental values.
