There is an old saying that prevention is better than cure. At TX Services, we do not view it as just a phrase, but as the way we choose to relate to the world around us. That is why, on this year’s World Cleanup Day, we headed to Zvezdara Forest—not as observers, but as participants in an action that would turn out to be much more than an ordinary cleanup.

At first glance, the forest looked tidy. Clean paths, untouched greenery, everything as nature should look. However, it was enough to bend down, to look a little more carefully, for the picture to change completely. Tiny pieces of confetti stuck in the grass. Cut-up straws scattered near benches. Cigarette butts pressed into the ground. Deflated balloons hanging from branches. The occasional forgotten decoration, silent remnants of someone’s celebration that ended long ago, but whose trace still remains.

None of this is noticed in passing. And that is precisely what makes this problem so insidious. What we do not see, we easily forget exists.

But the numbers tell a different story. Plastic confetti can take up to a thousand years to decompose. Cigarette butts take between ten and fifteen. In that time, we will celebrate hundreds of birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and other moments that mean something to us, while nature silently bears the evidence of each one.

Our team spent hours that day cleaning up what was left behind from other people’s celebrations, things that many passersby do not even notice. It was a small, concrete gesture, but we are aware that one action, however dedicated, cannot make up for what is repeated daily in countless similar places throughout the city and the world.

That is why we believe that real change does not come from individual actions, but from the shared responsibility we build day by day. Nature gives us space to gather with loved ones, to celebrate important moments, to rest from everyday life. The least we can do is return that space to it in the condition we found it, or, even better, a little better.

This action was not a one-time event for us, but a reminder. A reminder that caring for the environment does not require grand gestures, but consistent, small decisions that each of us makes every day. Take with us what we brought. Leave behind only memories, not traces.
