RNIDS – Donation: National .RS Domain for the “Lungs of Belgrade” Initiative

Belgrade breathes. But it could breathe better.

It was precisely from this thought that the “Lungs of Belgrade” initiative was born — an invitation to citizens, companies, and institutions to collectively create space for more greenery, cleaner air, and nature within the city. RNIDS, the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry, was one of the first to recognize this idea — and decided to support it in two concrete ways.

Firstly, the initiative found its home online: PlućaBeograda.rs — an address that not only names the idea but also gives it a digital identity on Serbia’s national domain. Here, the public will be able to follow activities, get to know partners, and join the mission. The symbolism is not accidental: an initiative caring for Belgrade’s roots has received a domain rooted in the Serbian internet.

Secondly, RNIDS also helped with the procurement of tools for fieldwork — because every afforestation effort, every green space arrangement, and every volunteer action requires practical equipment, not just good intentions.

For us at Discover Serbia, this support is an example of what we would like to see as the norm: an organization that recognizes broader responsibilities in its work and chooses to fulfill them in a meaningful way. Not through a symbolic gesture, but through support that pushes the initiative forward — from idea to visible result.
