ONE STEP CLOSER TO ACHIEVING THE GOAL OF 2,000 CHERRY LAURELS: DISCOVER BELGRADE AND DISCOVER SERBIA AT THE POLYTECHNICS – SCHOOL FOR NEW TECHNOLOGIES

A school that has shown that responsibility goes hand in hand with knowledge

The fourth action within the mission of the “Discover Belgrade” organization’s volunteers to plant a total of 2,000 seedlings cherry laurel during 2025 was carried out at the Polytechnics – School for New Technologies. The idea is the same at every location, but it is confirmed again and again: when educational institutions get involved and open their doors to joint initiatives, the school space gains new value. This action was another concrete step towards the goal, but also a clear message that caring for the environment belongs to a modern way of thinking – just like new technologies.

A well-coordinated team of volunteers and a great contribution from high school students

As this is already the fourth action within the same mission, the “Discover Belgrade” volunteer team was completely in sync — everything went quickly, clearly and without any delays, from the distribution of roles to the final watering. This time, we especially felt the strength of young people: high school students got involved seriously, responsibly and with that natural energy that immediately “pulls” the whole team. We were positively surprised by how open the new generations are to such initiatives and how easily they understand the point – that the city is not changed by big words, but by concrete actions. Discover Serbia provided seedlings, all the tools and necessary material, and our expert team was there to direct the planting and ensure that each seedling was planted correctly, so that it would take root and grow in the best conditions.

Greenery as a lasting lesson and the last step that awaits us

Planting is the beginning, and the real value comes through care: watering, protecting and monitoring the growth of seedlings. This is where ecological awareness arises in practice – when students take responsibility for nurturing what they have planted themselves. We thank the Polytechnics – School for New Technologies for their support, cooperation and excellent response. This was the fourth action within the 2,000 cherry laurel mission, and now only one more step separates us from the complete achievement of the goal – we look forward to the last action that awaits us by the end of this month.
