From June 12 to 14, 2026, the ‘VoLim Expedition’ was successfully conducted—a promotional and educational tourism project dedicated to discovering the natural, cultural, and tourism potential of the Polimlje region.

During the three-day program, participants had the opportunity to discover Polimlje through direct immersion in nature, adventurous water activities, visits to significant natural and cultural sites, ecological activities, and interaction with the local community.

One of the central parts of the expedition was rafting on the Lim River, on the section from the Kumanica Monastery to Brodarevo. After the distribution of protective equipment and the mandatory safety briefing, participants, accompanied by experienced skippers, set off on a descent down one of the most beautiful and exciting rivers in Western Serbia.

Rafting provided participants with the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Lim from up close, get to know its banks, and discover the great potential of this river for the development of active and adventure tourism.

An important part of the “VoLim Expedition” was an ecological action during which participants cleaned several beaches and riverside locations.

During the action, significant amounts of various waste were collected, making a concrete contribution to the preservation of the natural beauty of the river and lake, as well as raising awareness about the importance of responsible behavior in nature.

This activity showed that tourism does not only imply enjoying natural resources but also responsibility toward the areas we visit. Through the joint work of the participants, locations used by tourists, excursionists, and the local population were improved.

The second part of the program was dedicated to Uvac Lake, one of the most attractive lake areas in this part of Serbia.

Participants enjoyed sailing on Uvac Lake, discovering hidden bays, and getting to know the unique natural landscapes of this protected area. The calm surface of the lake, surrounded by forests, steep cliffs, and mountain landscapes, showed why Uvac has great potential for the development of nautical, family, and sustainable tourism.

A special experience was the visit to the Ice Cave, one of the most interesting natural landmarks of this region. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the wealth of cave decorations and the natural processes that have shaped this unique underground space over thousands of years.

Staying at the lake was also an opportunity to discuss the importance of preserving natural resources, protected areas, and the responsible behavior of visitors.

The “VoLim Expedition” connected multiple destinations and various tourism offerings into a unique three-day route. The program included the Lim River, Brodarevo, Kumanica Monastery, Uvac Lake, the Ice Cave, and the mountain regions of Southwestern Serbia.

The special value of the project is reflected in the connection of active holidays, environmental protection, cultural heritage, local gastronomy, and the services of local households.

Participants were not just visitors, but an active part of the expedition and an authentic experience of Polimlje—a region where mountains, rivers, lakes, and different cultures and traditions meet.

The “VoLim Expedition” is not just a three-day event, but a foundation for the further promotion of Polimlje as a unique destination for active, sustainable, and experiential tourism.

The “VoLim Expedition” has once again shown that the most beautiful stories about Serbia are written on its rivers, lakes, and mountains—but also that it is our collective obligation to preserve these natural values for future generations.
