The organization Discover Serbia, the company Playrix, and PE “Vojvodinašume” carried out a major environmental initiative in the Special Nature Reserve “Koviljsko-Petrovaradin Rit”.

A total of 200 participants took part in the initiative, working together to achieve concrete and measurable results in the fields of nature protection, improving tourist infrastructure, and biodiversity conservation.

Through the implementation of all activities, Playrix earned a total of 2,870 CSR points within the Discover Serbia organization’s CSR system.

During the major volunteer initiative:

• five hectares of shoreline were cleaned;
• 20 waste bins were made, painted, and installed;
• 10 animal feeders were constructed, made, and installed;
• 30 spawning nests for pike-perch were made and installed;
• five furniture elements were restored and painted;
• five ash tree saplings were planted;
• 10 boats of the Ecological Fleet of Serbia participated in the activities;
• an ecological workshop was held for 70 children;
• a LEGO educational workshop was held for 70 children.

The achieved results represent a direct contribution to the preservation of natural habitats, improvement of conditions for animal species, and arrangement of the space intended for visitors to the reserve.

The initiative was carried out immediately before the start of the summer tourist season, which gives its results additional significance.

By cleaning the shoreline, installing new waste bins, restoring furniture, and arranging the space, the infrastructure for receiving tourists and other visitors to Koviljski Rit has been greatly improved.

The installed equipment will contribute to preserving the cleanliness of the reserve and more responsible behavior of visitors, while the restored furniture will enable a more pleasant and safer stay in nature.

A particularly significant segment of the initiative was the making and installation of 30 spawning nests for pike-perch.

This activity contributes to creating more favorable conditions for pike-perch reproduction and preservation of the fish population in the aquatic ecosystems of Koviljsko-Petrovaradin Rit.

In addition to the fish nests, volunteers constructed and installed 10 animal feeders, thereby providing additional support to animal species that inhabit this protected area.

By planting five ash trees, another concrete step was taken toward the restoration and preservation of the reserve’s forest ecosystems.

An important role in implementing the initiative was played by Serbia’s Environmental Fleet, which took part in the field with ten specialized boats.

The boats provided access to sections of the shoreline and water surfaces that cannot be reached by land, as well as transport for participants, equipment, and collected waste.

Thanks to the support of Serbia’s Environmental Fleet, volunteers were able to cover a significantly larger area of the reserve and clean even the harder-to-reach parts of the shoreline.

While adult volunteers took part in field activities, a special educational program was organized for the youngest participants.

A total of 70 children took part in an environmental workshop and a LEGO workshop.

Through the environmental workshop, children learned in an engaging, age-appropriate way about:

• the importance of protected natural areas;
• proper waste disposal;
• the conservation of plant and animal species;
• the importance of rivers, forests, and wetland habitats;
• personal responsibility for protecting the environment.

During the LEGO workshop, through play, teamwork, and creative building, children developed ideas related to ecology, nature, and sustainable development.

In this way, in addition to concrete results in the field, the initiative also had an important educational role.

The Special Nature Reserve “Kovilj–Petrovaradin Marsh” is one of the most beautiful and most important natural landscapes in Vojvodina.

This unique complex of floodplain forests, marshes, ponds, river branches, islands, and wet meadows is an important habitat for numerous plant and animal species.

The reserve stretches along the Danube, and its interconnected marsh-wetland and forest ecosystems play an exceptional role in preserving biodiversity and natural balance.

Because of its natural values, Kovilj–Petrovaradin Marsh is recognized as an internationally important area for birds and plants, and it is also on the list of wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

With their energy, dedication, and teamwork, they showed how corporate volunteering can deliver concrete, long-term results for nature and the local community.

This initiative is an example of socially responsible business that doesn’t end with messages and promises, but leaves a visible and measurable impact on the ground.

The program’s organization and implementation also involved 25 members of the Discover Serbia team.

Team members were responsible for preparing and coordinating activities, assigning volunteers, transporting and setting up materials, operating the boats of Serbia’s Environmental Fleet, running workshops for children, ensuring participant safety, and overall field logistics.

Their dedication, experience, and teamwork made it possible for a large number of different activities to be carried out safely, in an organized manner, and in line with the reserve’s protection requirements.

We would like to give special thanks to engineer Srđan Marković, Head of the protected area Kovilj–Petrovaradin Marsh, whose knowledge, experience, and familiarity with the terrain were of great importance for proper planning and the successful implementation of all activities.

Thanks to cooperation with the manager’s expert services, all activities were carried out in line with the reserve’s needs and the principles of responsible management of protected natural areas.

The major environmental initiative in Kovilj Marsh showed how significant results can be achieved when companies, volunteers, expert institutions, and environmental organizations join forces.

The 200 participants left behind a cleaned shoreline, restored site furniture, new trash bins, animal feeders, nests for zander spawning, planted trees, and a better-arranged area for visitors.

However, equally important are the sense of togetherness, knowledge, and awareness of nature conservation that participants took with them.

Playrix, its volunteers, PE “Vojvodinašume”, and Discover Serbia together showed that corporate environmental initiatives can simultaneously contribute to nature, the local community, children’s education, and the development of a responsible approach to protected areas.

Together, we leave a mark that can be seen, measured, and that remains with nature.
