  • 45 cubic meters of collected waste

Lake Međuvršje has experienced an ecocide during this period due to enormous amounts of floating waste, which was our call to action.

Thirty volunteers from the GoGreen Team, supported by six rafting boats from the Discover Serbia eco fleet, bravely faced this challenge. On this occasion, an incredible 45 cubic meters of floating waste were removed from the lake, which is about 30 bags of waste.

The motivation of the volunteers was evident – according to them, previous actions on this lake have borne fruit, and there is significantly less waste in those areas than before. Some volunteers had cleaned this lake before, while some were first-timers, but they all worked together with the same goal: preserving our natural environment.

This action was carried out specifically before the summer season, as floods bring large amounts of waste during this time of year.

In previous years, the waste was closer to the dam at Međuvršje, but we have successfully cleaned those areas. Now we are acting preventively and will clean up the waste before the water carries it back towards the dam and the beach. We use specially designed boats because it is necessary to have vessels with shallow drafts for this action, said Vladimir Pavlović, director of Discover Serbia.

Although the extracted waste is difficult to recycle due to different types of plastic waste, it is important that it has been removed from where it does not belong.

Most of this waste will end up in a landfill, but that is certainly better than being in the river, stated Bojana Perić, director of the packaging waste management company Ekostar Pak, which is the eco-partner of the Clean Up the Rivers initiative.

We are proud of our volunteers and partners who helped us carry out this action. Their dedication and effort have contributed to a cleaner natural environment in Čačak. Together, we can solve environmental problems and create better conditions for future generations. Join us in the Clean Up the Rivers initiative and help us continue with such actions.

Every step towards a cleaner and healthier environment is a step towards a better future for all of us.
