The Discover Serbia Association, continuing our valuable “Let’s Tidy Up for Children” initiative, has taken another significant step towards creating a more pleasant and healthier environment for our youngest. Dedicated volunteers from BASF Serbia joined preschool children in planting 160 cherry laurel seedlings in the yard of the “Istok” kindergarten in New Belgrade, which is part of the “11 April” Preschool Institution and has more than 350 enrolled children.

Each child who participated in tree planting had the honor of naming it and making a wish, with the first planted tree being named Milkica. The engagement of preschoolers and their interest in caring for nature was exceptionally inspiring. They have already planned ways to organize regular watering of the newly planted seedlings, thus demonstrating responsibility towards the environment from the earliest age.

Jelena Dubljević, director of the “11 April” Preschool Institution, joined the action, expressing special gratitude to the volunteers for their engagement and time dedicated. The interaction with the little ones was also very valuable, as the children had the opportunity to learn what it means to be an eco-volunteer, thus gaining important life lessons about solidarity and community care. We also organized an eco-workshop for the children, where they learned in more detail about numerous plant and animal species, and especially about how to treat them.

This action not only contributed to a greener environment for our children but will also provide them with cleaner air, less noise, and a more private space for carefree play in the kindergarten yard, which is located right next to a busy road. We look forward to our next visit to the “Istok” kindergarten, when we will be able to see how the seedlings have grown and how the space is transforming into an even more pleasant and inspiring place for play and learning.
