Discover Serbia and Microsoft jointly carried out an activity to improve the schoolyard of Primary School ‘King Petar the First’ in Belgrade, located at King Petar Street no. 7. This educational institution, designed by architect Jelisaveta Načić, represented a symbol of modernity in primary education, not only in Belgrade but also throughout Serbia during the early 20th century.

The school remains highly representative today, located near the Cathedral Church and Princess Ljubica’s Residence.

The issues that arose in the schoolyard towards the Cathedral Church needed to be resolved. Specifically, three trees were noticeably missing, likely having dried out over time, which necessitated urgent intervention to preserve the school’s greenery and improve the school environment.

The Discover Serbia team and Microsoft company volunteers took the initiative. We purchased three large globe maple saplings and carried out a planting activity. We arranged transportation, dug holes, and planted three trees, thus contributing to the visual and ecological improvement of the schoolyard.

Although an ecological workshop for the school’s students was also planned as part of the activity, unfortunately, student participation was not possible. Just one hour before the start of the activity, the school received a bomb threat warning, which led to the cancellation of student participation in this stage of the activity. However, the Discover Serbia team will continue this part of the activity in 2024, providing students with the opportunity to get involved in the planting process and education on the importance of environmental preservation.

18 Microsoft company volunteers and 6 members of the Discover Serbia team actively participated in this activity, fostering team spirit and achieving the goals set for this initiative. This collaboration with Microsoft represents another step forward in fulfilling our mission of improving living spaces and supporting educational institutions.
