Forest Administration “Morović”, Šid
October 01, 2023
Discover Serbia, in collaboration with Euronet company, conducted a successful ecological action of collecting pedunculate oak acorns in the Morović Forest Administration. This initiative, which took place on October first, aimed to preserve and protect the most valuable hardwood species in Serbia, the pedunculate oak (Quercus robur).
During the action, Discover Serbia’s expert team, consisting of four forestry engineers, along with 56 volunteers from Euronet company, dedicated themselves to collecting pedunculate oak acorns. A total of impressive 1000 kilograms of acorns were collected, making a significant contribution to the preservation of this important species.
The action was carried out in the Forest Administration “Morović”, where volunteers worked diligently under the guidance of the expert team. The pedunculate oak, as an indigenous species, is of particular importance to our natural environment. In the last four years, the plant has not produced seed crops, while this year brought an exceptionally large yield. However, cold weather caused the seeds to fall rapidly to the ground.
The quick response of Discover Serbia and the engagement of volunteers from Euronet company enabled the successful collection of a significant amount of acorns. It is important to note that if the acorns are not collected within the next 15 days, they would lose their properties.
This action not only contributed to nature conservation but also highlighted the importance of joint engagement of companies and civil society organizations in addressing environmental challenges. Discover Serbia will continue with similar initiatives, creating a positive impact on the environment and promoting awareness about the necessity of nature conservation.
We thank the Public Enterprise Vojvodinašume, which supported the action by hosting the Discover Serbia team and Euronet company volunteers.
