On Saturday, June 3rd, a cleanup action was held on the Bosut Canal, which is an integral part of the Zasavica Special Nature Reserve. This initiative brought together more than 70 volunteers from various IT companies from Belgrade. Six boats from the Ecological Fleet were engaged in the action, during which 6m³ of floating waste was collected.

The initiator of the action, the oDiscover Serbia organization, has carried out 9 similar actions throughout Serbia this year, but, in their opinion, today’s action was the most purposeful, because a floating barrier was placed above the cleaned part of the canal after the action, which will prevent further flow of waste from the “contaminated” part of the canal towards Zasavica.

In addition to protecting the special nature reserve, the action aimed to create a better environment for bird habitats and increase biodiversity. Before the action itself, bird nests were surrounded by plastic bottles. The IT company volunteers were thrilled and proud of their performance after the action. They announce the continuation of the action and the “liberation” of birds from bottles, emphasizing that they will encourage colleagues from their companies to join one of the upcoming actions.

The administration of the Zasavica Special Nature Reserve, led by manager Simić Slobodan and his expert team headed by Stanković Mihajlo, supported this action and recognized its importance for the preservation of the natural wealth of the Zasavica SNR, so in addition to logistical support, they prepared an interesting ecological workshop for the volunteers.

The president of the Discover Serbia association, Vladimir Pavlović, emphasized the exceptional importance of the participation of as many companies as possible in actions that promote the preservation of Serbian nature. He also invited other companies to join the initiatives “Let’s Clean the Rivers of Serbia”, “Let’s Reforest Serbia” and “Let’s Organize for Children”.

With the words “let’s be part of a positive change and jointly contribute to a cleaner and healthier nature, your support is of key importance in achieving the goals we all share”, he emphasized that Discover Serbia will continue to operate in this field, organizing ecological programs that are based on the principle of extremely interesting team building, and which bring benefit and satisfaction to all participants.
