In the heart of nature, near Petrovac na Mlavi, a noble story was written last weekend. The Go Green team, made up of 50 motivated volunteers, joined forces in a two-day initiative that brought together ecology, compassion, and solidarity.

The main driver of this initiative was support for the Zvezda Center, an organization that selflessly cares for children and young people without parental care, as well as for those coming from difficult living conditions. Our goal was not merely to green the area, but to contribute—through work and companionship—to creating better conditions for young people preparing for independent life and education.

Each of the 1,200 planted seedlings symbolizes a new beginning and the support the community provides to those who need it most.

Over two intensive days, the area around Petrovac na Mlavi was transformed into a true worksite filled with positive energy. Although the task was ambitious, 50 volunteers demonstrated what genuine team synergy means:

• Site preparation: Careful planning and preparation of conditions so that each seedling has the best chance to grow.

• Work discipline: Organized into teams, volunteers tirelessly planted, watered, and landscaped the area.

• Togetherness: Breaks were reserved for sharing experiences, laughter, and strengthening bonds within the Go Green team.

This initiative has left a mark that will be visible for years to come. By creating this green barrier, we not only enhanced the surroundings of Petrovac na Mlavi, but also directly contributed to:

1. Environmental sustainability in the local community.

2. Raising awareness of the importance of supporting vulnerable groups of young people.

3. Strengthening the spirit of volunteerism, which is the foundation of every healthy society.

You may be wondering why we chose this particular plant. Photinia (Photinia) bears a name derived from the Greek word “photeinos”, which translates as “shining”. Its leaves are so smooth and glossy that they naturally reflect light, giving the landscape a distinctive sheen.

Interestingly, photinia belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae), making it a distant relative of apples and strawberries. Just as photinia is resilient and strong, we believe that the young people at the Zvezda Center, with adequate support, will also shine to their fullest potential.
