As part of our mission to plant a total of 2,000 seedlings of cherry laurel in Belgrade kindergartens and schools by 2025, the next station was the “Mihajlo Petrović Alas” Elementary School. This action continued the story that began in the kindergarten – the same idea, the same goal, but a new energy: to make schoolyards greener, more pleasant and healthier places for children, and to make planting a part of education through practice.

From the very beginning, it was clear that this would be a day to remember: „Otkrij Beograd“ volunteers, with good organization and a clear division of roles, turned the school planting into a real joint action. The students quickly joined in — digging, adding soil, holding seedlings, and watering, with that familiar children’s excitement when they do something „real“. The Discover Serbia team was there as reliable support in the background: we provided seedlings, tools and materials, and our expert team discreetly made sure that everything was planted correctly and that the seedlings had the best conditions to take root. We especially appreciate the excellent response from the school – the teachers and administration were present, involved and motivated, so the whole action had that feeling of togetherness that will be remembered.

The greatest value of such actions is that they leave something lasting — both in space and in habits. The cherry laurel will enrich the yard, but more importantly, by taking care of the seedlings, children adopt responsibility, patience, and awareness that nature requires attention, not just one day of enthusiasm. Thank you „Mihajlo Petrović Alas“ Elementary School for the great cooperation and energy – we continue towards the goal of 2,000 cherry laurels, step by step, with the same dedication and belief that such changes really make a difference.
