The new eco-company Servier joined our green movement and demonstrated immense strength at their first event. As many as 60 volunteers from the company stood shoulder to shoulder with us and, as part of World Cleanup Day, took on the challenge of cleaning Great War Island – an area where waste continually accumulates, threatening one of Belgrade’s most beautiful natural sanctuaries. Their energy and willingness to jump in immediately showed that new partners can make a difference in a short time, measured in cubic meters of waste and in the smile of nature breathing again.

To make such an endeavor possible, the Discover Serbia team provided complete and flawless organization of the event. Our volunteers divided into two operational teams to cover the entire area of Great War Island – one team operated from the water, using our specially designed eco-vessels with licensed skippers, while the other team simultaneously cleaned from the land, covering the wider perimeter of the island and all hard-to-reach approaches. This approach allowed the entire terrain to be covered by cleaning, including inaccessible parts overgrown with coastal vegetation.

The result of joint work was impressive – in just a few hours, more than four cubic meters of waste were removed, equivalent to the load of several full garbage trucks. The event clearly demonstrated how much planning, good organization, and a strong volunteer spirit can contribute to preserving Belgrade’s natural treasures.

After the successful cleanup event, volunteers had the opportunity to relax and further connect through an orienteering course we organized on-site. This activity brought fun, team spirit enhancement, and new skills in navigating nature, making the entire day even more fulfilling and inspiring.

We are pleased to have started a new collaboration with the company Servier and demonstrated that together we can push boundaries when it comes to nature protection. Special thanks go to Mina Mihajlović, a human resources specialist, who contributed to the realization of this event and collaboration with our organization through exceptional organization and dedication. This is just the first of many actions we will undertake together, and we are confident that each subsequent one will bring even greater results.
