Despite the cold weather, as part of the afforestation action held with the help of 50 volunteers from the company Agrosava, we planted as many as 1,500 seedlings in the Petrovčić settlement. This action, which is part of the initiative „Pluća Beograda”, is the fifth in a row this autumn in the mission to increase the forest cover of Belgrade by 14%.

The initiative contributes to the preservation of natural resources, the creation of new green areas, and the reduction of air pollution, which is of crucial importance for the quality of life in urban environments. Our volunteers and partners from Agrosava, with their effort and dedication, have helped us to be one step closer to this goal.

The “For a Greener Surčin” project is implemented by the Municipality of Surčin and the “Discover Serbia” organization with financial support from the European Union within the “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” project. This “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” project, with technical and financial support from the European Union and in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with Sweden and the European Investment Bank, with additional funding provided by the governments of Sweden, Switzerland, and Serbia.

Through this project, innovative methods of planting, watering, and forest maintenance are applied, which enables long-term sustainability and vitality of each seedling. These advanced techniques, developed in cooperation with experts from the Faculty of Forestry, ensure that every contribution to afforestation is effective, long-term, and sustainable.
