- Establishing a new windbreak belt
Volunteers of the organization Discover Serbia successfully planted 5,000 spruce saplings on Stara Planina on October 25 and 26. The goal of this action was to create a windbreak belt along the ski slope, especially in the part of the mountain where winds are most intense, to provide better conditions for skiers and preserve the natural environment.
150 volunteers, predominantly from IT companies, participated in the action, under the expert guidance of forestry engineers Vladimir Pavlović and Božidar Milovanović. The action was supported by Skijališta Srbije, which rewarded each volunteer with a one-day ski pass at the Stara Planina ski resort.
This action marks the beginning of a series of activities that Discover Serbia will implement on Stara Planina, and seven more similar actions are planned for the upcoming period.
Concurrently with this action, Discover Serbia has also launched a reforestation project in the vicinity of Belgrade, named Lungs of Belgrade. Within this project, as many as 250 hectares of forest will be planted, with the aim of creating new green areas that will contribute to air quality and nature preservation in the capital.
