- 100 volunteers
- 5,000 planted seedlings
As part of the Belgrade’s Lungs initiative, a major reforestation action took place in Surčin on Saturday, October 19, where 5,000 seedlings were planted with the support of Yandex company and their volunteers. This success would not have been possible without the contribution of around 100 volunteers, including Yandex employees and their families, with the youngest participants enthusiastically helping with the planting while learning about the importance of nature conservation and sustainable development.
The “For a Greener Surčin” project is implemented by the Municipality of Surčin and the “Discover Serbia” organization with financial support from the European Union within the “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” project. This “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia” project, with technical and financial support from the European Union and in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with Sweden and the European Investment Bank, with additional funding provided by the governments of Sweden, Switzerland, and Serbia.
Through this initiative, innovative methods of planting, watering, well drilling, and forest maintenance are being implemented, ensuring long-term sustainability and quality of each planted seedling. These advanced techniques were developed in collaboration with experts from the Faculty of Forestry and other environmental organizations, ensuring that every contribution to reforestation is effective, long-lasting, and sustainable. “Belgrade’s Lungs” is an example of how socially responsible companies can play a key role in environmental protection and improving the health of urban areas.
