We neither hide nor can conceal that the “Let’s Arrange for Children” initiative is one of our favorite actions. On the second day of December, “Gulliver” kindergarten in the heart of Belgrade – in Vračar municipality was on the agenda.
SOLVING THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM FOR "GULLIVER" KINDERGARTEN
The problem faced by most kindergartens in the city center, including “Gulliver”, is the exposure of children to passersby’s views while playing outdoors in the kindergarten yard.
In most cases, the children are separated from the street only by iron fences, making it easy to observe them, track their habits, and watch what they do. In modern times, this can be quite dangerous.
This is also one of the problems we’re trying to solve by providing fast-growing seedlings along the kindergarten fence, which will physically separate the children from casual (or intentional) passersby. For this occasion, we chose evergreen plants – thujas.
These were provided for this occasion by the Discover Serbia team, led by forestry engineer Vladimir Pavlović, in cooperation with GoGreen Team volunteers.
By planting seven thujas, a significant portion of the fence was covered, ensuring a more discreet and appropriate environment for children who will now be protected from view. Consequently, their safety in the “Gulliver” preschool institution has been enhanced.
We are particularly proud that EPSON Serbia recognized the importance of this action and wholeheartedly supported it. This company is our regular partner in other projects as well, so the cooperation is already well-established and flows smoothly to mutual satisfaction.
TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENTS
Thanks to the support of the European Union Office in Serbia, the Discover Serbia team is now able to conduct significantly higher quality workshops with accompanying lectures.
Specifically, a high-quality large-screen TV with a stand and speakers was acquired, making presentations easier and allowing participants to follow them more clearly, loudly, and with much more attention.
This was the first time we used the new equipment, which will significantly help us implement our planned actions at an even higher level in the future. But that’s not the end. We’re planning much more – for now, let that remain a small surprise.
CHILDREN AS ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN THE ACTION
One of Discover Serbia’s goals is to involve children in every organized action. The reason for this is our desire to educate them practically about the importance of afforestation, environmental preservation, and other topics directly related to ecology.
They were certainly helped by forestry engineer Vladimir Pavlović, who, besides giving lectures, took the opportunity to continue the tradition of gifting each child a seedling.
Also traditionally, the children will plant these seedlings in their yards, near their family homes, or in parks next to their apartment buildings.
The young environmentalists received spruce, white pine, and fir seedlings. Our intention is to soon start visiting the participants of our actions and see how the seedlings they planted with their parents’ help are progressing.
The care and maintenance of the plants are entrusted to the children, who will thus develop awareness of responsibility, work habits, and other important segments of the educational program we prepare for them.
WHAT'S NEXT?
In about ten days, specifically on December 12, another event is planned in the Vračar Municipality. Specifically, our host then will be the “Mića and Aćim” kindergarten.
We will implement the action in this preschool institution with Young Nomads, again with support from the European Union Office in Serbia.

The schedules for both actions are the same – starting at 10 AM and ending at 1 PM. We’re very pleased that the weather conditions served us well this time, and the weather for early December was quite pleasant, with plenty of sunshine and relatively high temperatures.
Thus, all participants had the opportunity to attend a wonderful and humane action, feeling good, relaxed, and eager to work. We are especially proud that the children were delighted with the course of the action and participated in tree planting together with their mentors.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
As part of the “Let’s Arrange for Children” initiative, Discover Serbia and GoGreen Team continue their actions.
The kindergartens where we will conduct environmental actions during December have a similar problem: they have large open areas facing the street with no plantings. Children are thus exposed to passersby’s views, street noise, and other undesirable influences.
Therefore, it is necessary to provide a more discreet and appropriate environment that will contribute to increasing children’s safety in these kindergartens.
At “Gulliver” kindergarten, the action is scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2022, and we will plant nine thuja seedlings. Volunteers will dig and prepare holes for planting, and then plant the prepared seedlings together with the children.
Besides planting, there will be an environmental workshop, ecological training, and distribution of spruce, black pine, and fir seedlings to each child.
This time, volunteers who are part of the action will distribute seedlings to children as gifts, with assistance from Discover Serbia’s expert team.
A promotional film will be made for each event.
Also, professional photographers will be engaged, and unlike the previous action, Discover Serbia will provide a TV where promotional films related to afforestation will be played throughout the action.
In both cases, the action starts at 10 AM and lasts until 1 PM. Transportation is organized for volunteers.
