The beautiful landscapes of Sjenica Lake gained additional brilliance thanks to the exceptional engagement of educators from the Children’s Innovation Center in Belgrade. This time, their mission was dedicated to cleaning nature, and they chose one of the largest tourist attractions in this part of Serbia as their location.

Clean the Rivers Initiatives
Lake Međuvršje has experienced an ecocide during this period due to enormous amounts of floating waste, which was our call to action. Thirty volunteers from the GoGreen team, supported by six rafting boats from the Discover Serbia eco fleet, bravely faced this challenge.
As part of our “Clean the Rivers” initiative, together with volunteers from IVBC company, we organized a cleanup action at Lake Međuvršje, the largest artificial lake on the Western Morava. With the help of three ecological fleet boats and support from our volunteers, we collected about seven cubic meters of waste, approximately 30 bags of floating debris.
On May 24, Discover Serbia, together with Microsoft and supported by Vojvodinašume, organized a major ecological action in the Special Nature Reserve Labudovo Okno, part of the Deliblato Sands along the Danube. Labudovo Okno is of exceptional importance for a large number of water bird species, and our task was to clean this precious ecosystem from waste that threatens their habitats.
We have successfully conducted the fifth volunteer environmental initiative aimed at habitat and biodiversity conservation, as well as enhancing the visitor experience within the protected area of the “Obedska Bara” Special Nature Reserve. This initiative represented a collaborative effort to preserve the natural heritage of this unique region, globally renowned as the “Eldorado for Birds” and the “Beauty of Srem”.
Last weekend, we organized a Family Day for Yandex employees and their children! More than 150 volunteers collected 50 sacks of waste from the riverbanks and less accessible parts of the Kovilj section of the reserve during the action.
On Saturday, October 14, 2023, an autumn action of landscaping and cleaning of Obedska Bara, one of the oldest ornithological reserves in the world, was carried out.
Discover Serbia, together with Microsoft, conducted a significant environmental action at Međuvršje, utilizing two boats from the ecological fleet and one catamaran. This action was also attended by Nenad Stavretović, a full professor at the Faculty of Forestry, contributing his expert approach to cleaning coastal areas.
Discover Serbia and GoGreen Team, united in ecological efforts, organized a successful Lake Perućac cleaning action, achieving an impressive result of 428 collected bags of waste, equivalent to 28 cubic meters of refuse. This initiative had significant impact, with participation from enthusiastic volunteers, national park representatives, and experts from the Discover Serbia association.
We are witnessing that our environment is severely damaged due to negligence and underdeveloped ecological awareness, which can and already significantly affects health, the economy, and consequently the quality of life in Serbia. Insufficient afforestation, poor condition of rivers and riverbeds, the impact of climate change, and increasing human neglect for the environment in which and from which they live, pose an increasing threat to human life and health.
