Kindergarten “Kindergarden”, Belgrade

Discover Serbia Society is equally dedicated to nature, ecology, and children! For this reason, a November 10, 2022 was prepared for special eco workshop, at a not-so-usual place.
On the scheduled day and at the scheduled place, the expert team of Discover Serbia, consisting of Prof. Dr. Gorana Isailović and forestry engineer Vladimir Pavlović, carried out an ecological action that is a rarity at this location.

Namely, Discover Serbia donated an evergreen tree seedling to each of the 33 preschoolers, while three additional trees were planted in vacant spots in the garden. The gift that the children received is neither everyday nor usual.
Therefore, the trees that the children’s parents will plant in the yards of family houses or in parks in front of the buildings where they live will be a permanent record of this event. At least for the preschoolers of “Kindergarden” and their family members, but also for all others who will be informed about this ecological action.

All children attended and actively participated in the planting process. On this occasion, the children learned a lot about ecology and the ecosystem, as well as about the vegetation they can see in parks and forests. Of course, also about the importance of forests for life on the planet.
On the other hand, our team is filled with joy that we will show the young generation what the basics of life are, what is essential for life on this planet, and that we will enable them to experience something that many of their peers are deprived of in the earliest days of their childhood: to come into direct contact with seedlings and the planting process.
Science in the service of growing up and education
On this occasion, Dr. Isailović introduced children to the world of fairy tales in a special way through children’s forest wellness and through extremely interesting stories, where children had an active role.
How this looked is best illustrated by the life and work of the famous poet Laza Kostić, who sang songs to each tree in the park of the Dunđerski castle – his godparents’ – hugged the trees and recited the most beautiful verses to them. And he did this together with young Lenka, the daughter of Count Dunđerski, with whom he was secretly in love.
Unlike the famous poet, on this occasion, the children conveyed messages to “their” tree, from the themes taught by Professor Gordana Isailović.

Namely, in the very center of Belgrade, on Takovska Street, there is a special preschool institution “Kindergarden”, which, unlike classic kindergartens, also has two gardens rich in trees and other vegetation.
What is the Mission of this Action?
Given that the public is already well acquainted with the work and activities of the Discover Serbia association, the staff of the “Kindergarden” kindergarten contacted us to jointly organize an action that will allow the little ones, attendees of this international preschool institution, to get more familiar with nature, trees, and the planting process, to hear something about the importance of greenery and come into direct contact with plants.
Combination of Common Interests
The team of experts from the Discover Serbia association, led by forestry engineer Vladimir Pavlović, wholeheartedly accepted this invitation and prepared a program that will remain in the children’s memory permanently, a program that will contribute to their mental development and ecological awareness, so we expect that some of these children will one day become environmental activists. Maybe even in Discover Serbia!

What else Have We Prepared?
The preschoolers of “Kindergarden” will not only have the opportunity to get acquainted with trees. Special, authentic gifts have been prepared for them, which will remind them of this special day throughout their lives.
